Thanks to paulwesleyfans.com

Paul Wesley doesn’t just look like an angel, he plays one on TV! In ABC Family Channel’s new flick “Fallen” (which premiered Sunday, July 23), Paul stars as Aaron Corbett, a teen orphan who learns that he’s actually an angel, but not the sweet, fluttery stereotype you think of when you hear the word. Aaron already feels like an outcast, so when he has to deal with his newfound powers, his life spirals out of control. We recently chatted with Paul in Los Angeles about this extraordinary role and have shared his thoughts with us!

TEENMAG: What was the best part of playing Aaron in Fallen?

Paul Wesley: I enjoy the fact that he’s a social outcast and I really like the fact that we don’t know much about his past. He’s never met his parents. There are so many interesting things to that. I thought it gave me a lot of range to play with. In the script it doesn’t really tell you much about what happened to Aaron when he was in orphanages and stuff like that, it gave me the opportunity to make up my own stuff and create my own history for him. I really dug that. It’s a really cool way of interacting with your character.

TEENMAG: Can you relate to feeling like an outcast?

Paul Wesley: I went to this private, all boys Catholic school and I got kicked out of there because I didn’t jive well with them. Then I went to a public high school and I didn’t really jive there either. So then I went to another school and then I graduated. So I never really got to establish my clique. There were always so many cliques and I never really felt into a group which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, I actually recommend it.

TEENMAG: If you didn’t identify with one particular group in high school, how did you make it through those years?

Paul Wesley.: I had a lot of extracurricular activities and I had one girlfriend that I consistently dated throughout high school. So that was always good. I was acting. I started acting junior year so I was actually out of school a lot. That was my problem, too, that I wasn’t there that often because I was doing the soap opera Guiding Light. Also, I was really into ice hockey. And I studied a lot; I got good grades. I also have strong family values – I’m very close with my parents.

TEENMAG: What do they think about your career?

Paul Wesley: They’ve been phenomenal supporters since day one. I went to college for a semester. They consistently preached, “You’ve gotta get good grades. You’ve gotta go to a good school.” When I made the decision to drop out of college to pursue acting I had already been moderately successful doing the soap opera. Instead of being hesitant they said, “Do it,” which was really cool. I respect that.

TEENMAG: Were you familiar with the books the movie is based on?

Paul Wesley: I wasn’t familiar with the books but to be honest with you I’m not that familiar with that kind of genre. I don’t know anything about comic books. I’ve never seen a Star Wars in my life. I’m literally clueless to that genre. Not that this is like Star Wars, but that whole sci-fi thing. The thing I like about this is that I think its less sci-fi and more mythology. Its more historical, its biblical in a way. But I wasn’t familiar with it at all.

TEENMAG: What’s the worst date you’ve ever been on?

Paul Wesley: I haven’t gone on many dates to be honest with you.

TEENMAG: That’s pretty shocking…Well, then, what’s the most romantic thing you’ve ever done for a girl?

Paul Wesley: When I was courting my first girlfriend, I was about 14 years old, and I sent a five-foot teddy bear to her house. It was so huge. But I had the wrong address and it was this whole mix-up. I wanted it to be this big surprise and they ended up calling her and saying, “We’re trying to deliver this teddy bear and we don’t know where it is.” It was so embarrassing but she thought it was the most romantic thing ever because I was only 14 and what 14 year old does that?

TEENMAG: Do you have a twitter account?

Paul Wesley: No I don’t. But I’ve heard there are many accounts under my name, which is really annoying. Maybe some day I will get twitter. But not yet.

TEENMAG: Favorite food?

Paul Wesley: Haha. I don’t really mind whatever there is to eat. I’m a little bit of a sushi maniac, though.

TEENMAG: Do you believe in love at first sight?

Paul Wesley: Oh. Wow. I really don’t know. Like, people will meet and swear later on that once they “saw eachother” it was immediately known to them that they’d be partners together. To be honest, I’m not a real believer of love at first sight. It’s more lust, isn’t it?

TEENMAG: Agreed. Do you search yourself up on Google/Youtube?

Paul Wesley: There has been the odd occasion where I have searched myself up, like Wikipedia and sites like that. I don’t usually do it, mainly for the sake I’m too busy to go and search myself up.

TEENMAG: What country would you really like to visit one day?

Paul Wesley: Australia. It’s just such a remote country and I’ve been told that the people there are so friendly and open and honest. Oh and the beaches … Gosh I love going to beaches.

TEENMAG: Will we be seeing you at the Oscars/Emmy’s one day?

Paul Wesley: Oh I hope so, haha. Some day. Be sure to write an article about that! (chuckling to himself)

Paul Wesley is an amazing actor, not only one who has got the most amazing looks, rivaled to our very own Brad Pitt and George Clooney, but also an “open, honest” and caring man who doesn’t mind having a laugh now and then. An uprising star, be sure to watch Paul Wesley on Fallen. Who knows, maybe some day we WILL see him at the Oscars. I’m rooting for you, Paul.

SOURCE: CLICK HERE

Between Twilight on the big screen and True Blood on its way back to the small screen, it seems our appetite for sexy bloodsuckers is still is ravenous as they are for us. Or at least that’s what the CW is hoping, as they begin another season of The Vampire Diaries.

Like most other vamp shows, The Vampire Diaries began life as a series of books. It focuses on the high school girl “Elena” from a fictional small town in Virginia. She meets and falls in love with two estranged brothers – Damon and Stefan – who just happen to have an especially active nightlife. Needless to say, it gets complicated.

The CW turned this undead love triangle into a breakout hit last fall, and the hotly anticipated new season is in full swing. Dish caught up with Paul Wesley and Ian Somerholder (Lost fans might know him better as Boone Carlyle) to get the scoop on the new season.

For Wesley, who plays the “Good” brother Stefan, landing the role wasn’t a walk in the park. “Oh my God, hardest I’ve ever worked for a part. I auditioned for the role of Damon three times, four times maybe. Constantly went back for Damon, back and forth, back and forth. They wouldn’t see me for Stefan, they thought I wasn’t right for it. Then they went older for Damon, they passed it to Ian, and they go ‘maybe this will work.’ They brought me in for Stefan and I read for it like four times.”

As for the competition, Wesley said “I then had to screen test against like, three guys image_002from Australia, three guys from London, four guys from New York, five guys from LA. It was like American Idol. It was like ‘go home… go home…’ and ‘you stay… you stay…’” He credits his upbringing with helping him finally score the role, “I don’t know how I got it but I will have to say, I’ve been on my own since I was 16 years old and that’s a long time… I think if they went with the guy who just left his parents’ house I don’t know if he could pull off being 160 years old.”

Wesley, who doesn’t look a day over 27, explained, “I think you have to have this innate sort of energy that is sort of 160 years old… where people look at you in the eye and they go ‘you’ve experienced something’”

Even after locking down the part, he admitted, “I was a little nervous, because it’s a lot to think about. I have to encompass 160 years of knowledge in my brain and I’m 27 and I’m thinking about the wisdom of my grandfather who is 80, who is my hero. And I’m thinking about how wise he is and I’m twice his age.”

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, we asked him about his in-show romance with Elena Gilbert (played by Canadian-Bulgarian hottie Nina Dobrev). “I’m thinking ‘why am I in love with this young girl?’ and then I’m like ‘why wouldn’t I be in love with this young girl?’ Her innocence is amazing. Think about it. I’m 160 years old, her innocence is so endearing and amazing to me. I cherish it.”

image5As for the love-triangle, it stays firmly in the show. He, Ian Somerholder, and Nina Dobrev have all become good friends. “Ian and I are bros, so I can mess with Ian, Nina is our little sister in a sense. She’s like our protector. Me and Ian, we just riff on each other, and it’s because I love him.” He explains “At the end of the day if somebody I cared about called me at four in the morning and said drive two hours because I am stuck, I’ll do it. I have like four friends that I’ll do it for and Ian is one of them.”

What makes them such fast friends? “Ian has the same values as me. We’ve both been doing this for so long, for 10 years we’ve been working, so we don’t have that naïveté in a sense where we have that seniority. We sort of bond on that level where we can talk from a place like ‘hey man, isn’t this great?’ We’ve been working so hard to get something like this.”

Later on, we got to probe Damon himself, Ian Somerholder, about his thoughts on vampires, love, and his character. Damon, considered the “Evil” brother, feasts on humans as he pleases, but Somerholder believes the brothers are more complicated than merely “good” and “evil.” “I think there is as much room for good in Damon as there is for evil in Stefan. I mean, we all have it inside of us.”

He says of the brothers, “Damon says things that are true because Damon is very truthful. Even if he’s a deviant bastard, he is still telling you the truth. And I think she [Elena] feels she’s been lied to by Stefan. In Stefan’s defense, he has essentially had to lie to her to protect her.”

Like Paul Wesley, Somerholder had to wrap his head around what it means to play a creature that is much more powerful and experienced than any human. “Try for just a second to imagine that as a vampire you have 160 years of experience, life experience, knowledge of humanity, of love, of death, of everything, of history. Then, on top of that, your senses… everything is heightened by 1000% , all the things you hear you have to learn to block out, your sense of needing to feed constantly, having hunger 1000 times more than human have. It’s a very intense proposition.”

Surprisingly, even though his show is riding a wave of vamp fiction, he hasn’t seen or read anything from the Twilight series. His influences go a little farther back. “You know, Lestat [from Interview with a Vampire] is one of the coolest dudes ever… I grew up on the lake in New Orleans, and I remember always thinking ‘there’s vampires over there, there’s vampires over there’”

Was the fearsome Damon scared of vampires as a kid? Never! “It wasn’t that it was scary, it was more enticing than anything. It was the not knowing. I remember sitting there as a little tiny kid and now when I go back there, now that I’m on the show, it’s kind of cool to go back there and sit there and see it and go ‘wow, I used to look at that skyline from 26 miles away across this huge lake and think ‘are they going to get me and mom and dad?’”

Whether you’re scared, enticed, or just need a new guilty pleasure to hold you over until the next season of True Blood, you can catch Paul, Ian, and The Vampire Diaries on The CW Thursdays at 8/7c

*translation to English thanked to Bee. Please, don’t republish without the credits*

BRAVO: How do you relate to your character? Do you recognize yourself in Stefan?
PAUL: Sure! I also hunt my food in the woods (laughs). But Stefan and I indeed have a very similar character.
We are both introverted and brooding. And believe it or not: When we started shooting my colleague Nina really thought I was a vampire…

BRAVO: Why’s that?
PAUL: Because my canine teeth are very pronounced. Many people think that I constantly wear plastic-vampire-teeth – but they really grew like this.
And I’m very pale. But the biggest similarity between Stefan and me is that he’s also been on his own from an early age on – you’ll find out more about this in the upcoming episodes. At the age of 16 I also moved from Marlboro/ New Jersey to New York – on my own!

BRAVO: What was the reason for that?
PAUL: At that time I was cast for the soap opera “Guiding Light”. A little later I was kicked out off school because I was only concentrating on acting. But that was okay…

BRAVO: Did you have lots of friends at school?
PAUL: Rather a few. At first I went to the “Christian Brothers Academy” – a strict, catholic school for boys only. I didn’t get along with anyone.
Everything was very formal there. I hated it there. Then I went to a school for boys and girls, that was much better. I guess I have to be around girls to feel good. (laughs)

BRAVO: Your real second name is Wasilewski. Have you ever been to Poland, the homecountry of your parents?
PAUL: Sure, I also have family there. I used to spend almost all my holidays there! On my way to Poland I’ve often been to Germany, too. Especially Berlin is a great city!

BRAVO: In the movie “Wolf Lake” you’ve played a werewolf. So what’s hotter: Werewolf or vampire?
PAUL: I like vampires because they are very mysterious and thoughtful. Werewolves on the other hand act instinctly and spontaneous. It’s more fun, playing a werewolve. But a vampire is a greater challenge for an actor.

BRAVO: Would you like to be able to live forever like a vampire?
PAUL: I don’t know… (thinking). It would bother me not being able to establish relationships with “normal” people. In the course of time you see everyone around you die. I’d feel very lonely…

BRAVO: How many times have you been compared to Robert Pattinson?
PAUL: (laughs) Too many times. Mostly they talk to me about our similiar hairstyles. But I’ve had my hair like this for 10 years. I didn’t copy anything!
I don’t want to be compared to him either. Every girl would shove me out of her way to be close to him.
But in my opinion the hype about Rob enables every vampire movie and tv show – therefore “Vamprire Diaries” as well – to be successful at all!

BRAVO: How well do you get along with the other leading actors Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev?
PAUL: Perfectly! I love them!

BRAVO: Try to describe them with only one word…
PAUL: With Nina “boss” comes to my mind. (laughs) She’s a capricorn – therefore stubborn, ambitious and super-clever.
And Ian? He’s so cool! He’s a great guy, you can always and everywhere have fun with him. I couldn’t ask for better co-actors!!

by Andrea Simpson February 16, 2010 08:44 AM EST

Fans of the CW’s fang-tastic new series The Vampire Diaries are definitely giving Twi-hards a run for their money. Hundreds of devotees proved their neck-and-neck loyalty during an autograph signing at Hot Topic in Westfield Topanga Mall over the weekend – and appropriately enough for the Valentine’s Day weekend, fans came prepared to profess their true love with red roses, cards – and phone numbers! – in hand.

Star Paul Wesley spoke to TV Guide Magazine about what’s in store for young lovers Stefan and Elena, Katherine’s whereabouts, and Damon’s (Ian Somerhalder) heartbreak and continued vengeance.

“There will always be conflict. That’s just the nature of the story,” said Wesley of his on-screen relationship with Elena (Nina Dobrev). “Her mortality is a huge thing. What if she wants to turn? But for now they’re going to [be] a little less sort of serious and more like, ‘Let’s be a normal couple. Let’s laugh and do stuff that normal humans do.’”

After the band A Fine Frenzy performed on stage, hundreds of fans waited for over an hour with bated breath (and cell phones ready to capture the impending moment), that is, if Somerhalder and Dobrev would make an appearance just in time for Wesley to hit the stage to answer their questions. And in true Mystic Falls mystery fashion, they were pleasantly surprised. Along with Wesley, Somerhalder and Dobrev surprised the shrieking crowd (they actually rushed from the airport via helicopter, no less) so their fans could get up close and personal with their favorite vampires and mortals.

“It’s so cool,” Somerhalder said of all the fans who crowded the stage screaming their names, “the amount of energy, and noise and insanity that ensues is so gratifying and it makes us literally want to go back to Atlanta and work harder and do better.” And according to Somerhalder, just because the tomb may be closed on Katherine, doesn’t mean the book is shut on her in the TV series. “I don’t think [he’ll be able to let go of her.]. It’s just couldn’t be that simple.”

So without the steadfast mission to find his one-time love, what will Damon resort to next? “Damon having idle time, not having a mission, is a very, very problematic situation…I think there are more shenanigans [to come].” And when Damon is up to no good, his Salvatore brother is sure to follow.

Dobrev is holding out hope for Elena and Stefan, but admits here will always be outside factors toying with the strength of their relationship, which means anything can happen. “I think his presence always has an effect on their relationship, even if he doesn’t do anything. Even his existence complicates both their lives, so we’ll just have to wait and see,” said Dobrev. “You’re definitely going to see a Damon, Elena, Stefan trio, the three musketeers.”

That means more adventure past and present.

“One of my favorite things about the show is the flashbacks,” said Wesley. “There’s still so much to cover, like what happened? We’re still at just the tip of the iceberg. There’s so much for us to explore with 1864, but what did they do in 1910? What about 1950? It’s amazing how much we can explore.”

The star of The CW series discusses his good fortune, the vampire legacy, and where the show may be headed this season

By CARLOS DELGADO, Associate Editor
Published 2/4/2010

Last year, the CW introduced THE VAMPIRE DIARIES. Before they knew it, they had a bona fide hit on their hands. Leading the charge is Paul Wesley, better known as Stefan, the sullen 160 year old vampire who is the love interest of the show’s lead, Elena, played by Nina Dobrev. iF Magazine had a chance to talk with Wesley about his blossoming stardom, why he likes playing vampires, and a little about where he hope THE VAMPIRE DIARIES is headed this season.

iF MAGAZINE: How does it feel to don the mantle of the next hip vampire a la Kiefer Sutherland or Brad Patt?

PAUL WESLEY: Amazing. It’s great to be a part of that lineage. I’m a huge fan of INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE. I love films like SHADOW OF THE VAMPIRE with Willem Dafoe and the old Dracula films. So being a part of that mythology is fantastic. It’s an honor.

iF: Do you try to borrow at all from any of your vampire predecessors?

WESLEY: Maybe subconsciously because I’ve watched so many of those films. But I try to create Stefan from a human place of a seventeen year kid who is put into a situation, and now he’s a 160 year old man in this body. It’s kind of unique unto itself. All the circumstances and situations and characters are unique and individual. So I try to just stick to what the script is and the dialog and the story and not mimic too much.

iF: Have you read any of THE VAMPIRE DIARIES books?

WESLEY: I hadn’t read the books before I auditioned. But after I got the part, I found out it was based on books. I had like a week before I started shooting after I got the part, so I plowed through the books as quickly as I could.

iF: So now that you’re in this high profile position as the male lead of a very successful show, how does it feel to be entering into “sex symbol” territory?

WESLEY: I’m oblivious to it, in all sincerity. Hearing it kind of makes me blush. I don’t get out much, so I’m sort of oblivious to it. I have kind of a very homely life. I sit at home and I work. The idea of having female admirers makes me blush and makes me feel good.

iF: Who do you think Stefan loves more, Elena (Nina Dobrev) or his long lost love, Katherine?

WESLEY: Elena. I answer that with no hesitation.

iF: Why do you say that?

WESLEY: Because he realizes after meeting Elena that he never loved Katherine.

iF: You think Stefan never had any feelings for Katherine?

WESLEY: Yeah. It’s kind of like being in a relationship, you think you’re completely in love, you’re infatuated, and then you meet another person and you go, “Oh my God, what was I thinking?” And it’s kind of like that but a little different because that person also gave me eternal life. His obsession with Katherine was something that was finally broken by this human. And not for a 160 years, no one could break this obsession. And that’s why he would die and breathe for Elena for the rest of his life. For the rest of her life, I should say.

iF: What do you think this season is gearing towards?

WESLEY: I think it’s gearing towards Damon and Stefan not being the Damon and Stefan that you think and switching roles and Damon suffering and Stefan victorious and vice versa. I think Damon being good and Stefan being bad. I just want to explore all the aspects. I hope they do. And the fact is, they don’t tell us much. I know only the things that I’ve shot.

iF: Are you looking forward to exploring evil Stefan?

WESLEY: Absolutely. I want to explore every part, every human… even you and I, we’re capable of anything. I mean to a certain extent. We’re not sociopaths. But if we’re pushed? I want to explore that.

iF: As far as the town council goes, how much are they going to figure out?

WESLEY: You know, I think that that’s going to be the sort of ticking time bomb. That’s kind of the thing that’s going to keep viewers watching. They’re going t o go, “Uh oh. When is this going to happen?” It kind of makes the stakes higher.

The Vampire Diaries centers on a pair of vampire brothers. There’s Stefan, the “good” one, and Damon, the “bad” one. The siblings play extremes of the vampire continuum, from the sensitive emo ones to the traditional blood suckers. Paul Wesley, who plays Stefan, says that he and Ian Somerhalder, who plays Damon, really take the roles seriously.

“We do analyze it,” Wesley said. “We do a lot of work and spend a lot of time talking about our roles, but then we let it go and drift. We are bros in real life and you can’t fabricate that.”

Wesley has some ideas for where Stefan should go, and the producers of the show are open to suggestions. “As a matter of fact, when we get the scripts, we have a relationship where we can call them and say, ‘Why do I do this?’ Julie [Plec] and Kevin [Williamson] write our characters for us and, the way that we play our characters, they’ll see something and go, ‘Oh, I like that smile there,’ or ‘I like Stefan sort of sinister,’ and they start writing more of that. They cater to it and, in a sense, mold it to your liking.”

That made it really easy when the brothers started imitating each other. “That was fantastic! We had a blast. We spend 24 hours a day together, so I didn’t have to look at him anymore. I knew exactly what he did. I knew exactly how to make fun of him. I get all his little quirks. We had so much fun that day. Everybody was laughing. It was one of those days on set where the crew was like, ‘Oh, my God, Ian and Paul are not taking themselves so seriously.’ I’m usually like, ‘I need another take.’ I’m always about it being good and perfect, to the point of detriment, and that day we just wanted to have fun.”

Perhaps the characters are not as different as they appear on the surface. “In a way, but I’m biding my time. I know it’s just a matter of time before I get to go nuts. This is a game of tennis. He’s playing his game right now by serving his aces, and I’m doing my backhands and staying in front of the net. Eventually, I’m going switch up my game. I think Stefan’s the good guy, but my biggest interest is Elena and her love. He lives for Elena. Without her, he’s nothing. If he loses her to Damon, he will resort to something else.”

February 2nd, 2010 by Lisa McGarry.

Tell us about your character Stefan.
“Stefan is a tormented vampire around 150 years old. He doesn’t look his age though! He was turned into a vampire when he was a young man so he eternally looks the same age as he was back then.

“He is tormented and anguished as he really hates being a vampire and he doesn’t want to be in this state. I don’t know for sure but the assumption I make is that Stefan was turned into a vampire against his will. He hates it.

“He falls in love with Elena and she bears a striking, uncanny resemblance to a girl he was in love with over a century ago. Damon shows up and wreaks havoc and tries to ruin their relationship and steal Elena from him.”

Why is Stefan so fixated with Elena?
“It’s a mystery. In the first episode, Stefan has a photo of Katherine, the girl he was in love with over a century ago and she and Elena look exactly the same.”

Stefan finds himself in a love triangle with Elena and Damon. Have you ever experienced a similar situation?
“No I’ve never been in that situation. I hope this doesn’t sound cocky but if you like a girl and she can’t make a decision then she’s not the one for you! Elena’s love for Stefan is undying and it becomes a triangle in the way Damon manipulates himself into the situation.

“The more Damon can make Stefan look like he’s not so noble and a little deceitful, the more doubt he puts into Elena’s mind and the more he makes himself look like the good guy. At the beginning it’s not a triangle, Elena and I just have this passion and love that is undying.”

Can you relate to Stefan in any way?
“Totally, that’s why I got the part. I felt when I read the script that I connected with Stefan in so many ways. He’s a bit of an introvert in a sense and I have that personality and Ian is an extrovert so he plays Damon perfectly. There is so much inner anxiety Stefan has and I can certainly relate to that on my own superficial human level.”

Why do you think people are so fascinated by vampires?
“Stefan is so desperately in love with Elena he would die for her. He would do anything for her; nurture, care and protect her, even jump in front of a bus for her. But at the end of the day, when he sees her he wants to bite her neck and suck on her blood which would kill her.

“So it’s a constant temptation and that paradox and dilemma is fascinating. I think people are really intrigued by it. It’s also very symbolic and metaphoric and sexual in so many different ways.”

Have there been any strange happenings on set in Atlanta?
“Recently we were filming on a real plantation – it was creepy as there was a lot of dark history. After slavery was abolished, the owner of that plantation was the first guy to be hung because he lynched all his slaves instead of setting them free. So he was hanged and now the place is historically, famously listed as one of the most haunted places in the US.

“We filmed there at night time and it was just really weird and creepy. All of the graves were there, about 150 of them. It was very bizarre. I’m very practical and don’t believe in the paranormal but I do believe your imagination is a powerful thing and everyone on set got very jumpy.”

You and Ian play brothers who are at war with each one another. How do you get along away from the cameras?
“We didn’t know each other at all before we started filming but he’s now become one of my closest friends. He’s an amazing guy, a fantastic actor and a good person and I really feel that I have a great brotherly thing going with him in real life. All day long we tease each other, mess around, pick on each other and get into heated discussions. It’s great.”

Your character is tortured by his past. Does falling in love with Elena change his serious personality?
“Oh yes, totally. We do an episode where Damon and Stefan switch places and he starts manipulating Damon and starts mocking him, imitating him. It’s really fun to explore his character as the series progresses.

“In the beginning he takes himself so seriously. He’s so intense but that’s what is called for. I’ve done a lot of different characters as an actor and try to make my characters dynamic. People aren’t the same, people grow. Being around all these high school kids and interacting with all these human beings is humanising Stefan. So as the show progresses he stops being so epic and intense and everything he says isn’t so calculated. By episode 8 or 9 he’s just talking normally like a spontaneous human being.

“He’s just not used to interacting; he doesn’t know what to say. He’s like ‘I’m 150 years old, I’ve been in the civil war and I’m having a conversation with this girl who’s just watched Twilight!’ What do you say in that instance? It’s like being an alien. Not to mention I want to kill Elena and suck on her blood and I’m obsessed with her. There is just so much to grapple with as an actor.”

How do you psyche yourself up to get into vampire mode?
“I just imagine all the blood rushing to my face, all the temptation and anger. I actually have anger. I’m not saying I’m like a violent person but I have an anger that is inherent that I’ve always had. So when I’m doing scenes with Ian and he’s driving me crazy on screen, it’s kind of easy for me to tap into it and I just let the anger out in that way.”

If you could choose to have one vampire attribute (ageless/being able to move fast/mind manipulation/disappear, what would it be?)
“I certainly wouldn’t want the temptation of feeding on blood and having to rely on a ring to come out in daylight. Reading someone’s mind is incredibly manipulative so I’d go for mind manipulation. I could use that sometimes.

“With the ageless thing you’d be bored as hell, everyone you know would die. I think everyone wants eternal life and everyone is scared of death but come on, if you think about it, it would be pretty miserable. The ambiguity and mystery of life is gone, you know what you’re going to be doing until the sun explodes!

“Death is a part of life and when I first got the part I thought to myself ‘What is Stefan so tormented about?’ But then when I put myself in his mind frame I thought, ‘You know what? It would be pretty miserable to never get old.’”

Why should ITV2 viewers tune in to watch the show?
“It’s a quality show where you fall in love with the characters. They grow on you and you become invested in the story. It doesn’t take itself too seriously. It progresses and grows and gets better and better. It’s thrilling, scary, frightening and the plot lines are fantastic.”

For many readers of the Vampire Diaries book series, Paul Wesley fits the description of Stefan Salvatore perfectly. He’s handsome, smoldering and mysterious. He even has some prominent fang-like teeth. So while he may now seem like a shoe-in for the part, Paul admits that the audition process was grueling. In fact, he only had about two weeks from the time he was cast until they began filming the pilot.

While it was a summer arts program in third grade that introduced Paul to acting, he didn’t land his first television role until high school. Since that time he has honed his craft in numerous television roles. Ironically, his first starring role was in the series Fallen. His character was a young man struggling to come to terms with the fact that he was half angel. It’s quite a jump from angel to vampire, but Paul seems more than ready to take on the challenge.

Upon learning that he would play the part of Stefan, Paul immediately threw himself into the books. He wanted to get as much back story as possible. The explanations that he gives of Stefan, and his relationships with Elena and Damon, seem to demonstrate a wonderful grasp of the role. He calls the chance to play such a “meaty character” an actor’s dream.

Just like his costar Nina Debrov, Paul has dealt with the comparisons between Twilight and Vampire Diaries. While he agrees that there are some definite similarities, “they’re both age old vampires who are in love with mortal girls and the stories take place in high school settings,” he is quick to point out that Edward and Stefan are two very different people, well, vampires.

I’m just now learning about Edward Cullen because people keep asking me about it [laughs]. But when we were shooting, I had no idea who Edward Cullen was — or what ‘Twilight’ was. I’m sure he’s incredible, but I’m not going to think too much about him because for me, it’s all about Stefan!

There are many Vampire Diaries fans out there echoing that sentiment.

Move over Robert Pattinson, there is a new hot vampire actor in the building and he is moving up the celebrity meter. His name? Paul Wesley.

Seen on The Vampire Diaries as Stefan Salvatore, Paul Wesley is creating quite a stir with his character on the CW every Thursday. Vampire friends and fan are coming out of the darkness to support this show and it is catching on fast.

The Vampire Diaries, a show about About a high school girl torn between two vampire brothers, which is based on the tagline: Love Sucks. Elena Gilbert (played by Nina Dobrev) needs to choose between two hot vampire brothers Damon Salvatore and Stefan Salvatore. Along with some blood spattering and romance, fans will find the performances of the characters strong and unlike other vampire stores.

The plot of The Vampire Diaries is losely based off the books titled the same. However, this show is anything but a Twilight remake. The books, published over ten years before the Twilight Series are a different spin on how vampires live and it definitely is a different world.

Wesley isn’t new to the entertainment business. This New Jersey native has been seen on Army Wives and will be bumping in to Jack Bauer in Day 7 and 8 on Fox TV ‘s hit show 24 later in the Fall. While his face may not be on the tip of every teenage girl yet, don’t fret it will be very soon.

Check out the Vampire Diaries on the CW Network every Thursday.

October 26, 12:59 AMVampire Diaries ExaminerAmber Lemmons

That’s right, years before Paul Wesley was cast as Stefan in the Vampire Diaries, he played Luke Cates in the series Wolf Lake. The short-lived show began on CBS in 2001, then moved to UPN. Only 10 episodes aired.

Wolf Lake, set in the Pacific Northwest, explores what happens when a Seattle suburb is overtaken by werewolves. Socialite Life has screen caps from an episode showing Paul and some of the other characters nude. While the pictures show, well, a side of Paul that hasn’t been seen on Vampire Diaries, the most striking thing may be the fact that he hasn’t aged a day in the eight years since Wolf Lake.

Once again, there are Twilight connections. Not only is Wolf Lake set in the same area as Twilight, and both deal with werewolves, they share an actor as well. Graham Greene, who plays Harry Clearwater in Eclipse, was in Wolf Lake with Paul as Sherman Blackstone.

It seems that in the realm of werewolves and vampires, it really is a small world.
